Every time there is a small problem or glitch with a Instagram or Twitter or Facebook people lose their dang minds. But I believe that despite all the scare tactics and glitches social media is still an essential piece of the marketing puzzle for bloggers.
Agree or disagree? Keep reading.
This is where the know-like-trust factor comes into play. Here’s the reality: Your avatar is likely on at least one social media platform these days. AND they probably check it more regularly than their email.
So the odds of your avatar seeing it increase.
Of course this all really depends on the age and socioeconomic status.
But overall, the amount of time people are spending on social media increases every year. That’s a lot of eyeballs!
People are hanging out online in lots of places, but the bulk is on social. And you might loathe or even dread the ever changing algorithm landscape but people aren’t just hanging out reading your blog all the time!
Social media helps you find people that might love your blog in a place where they’re already hanging out.
And isn’t meeting and connecting with your avatar the kind of the whole point of social media for bloggers?

There are a lot of scare tactics floating around right now.
Facebook goes down for a few hours: “This is why you need an email list.”
Instagram glitches: “You can’t rely on social media to make money for your business.”
Facebook has a glitch: “Your email list is the only platform you truly own.”
Yea. We get it. Email lists are essential. But social media isn’t going anywhere.
These platforms aren’t functioning on a hope and a wish. They are large corporations running business that make real money. And as long as cash is flowing into their bank accounts, our Facebook accounts aren’t going anywhere, my friend.
And as far as the algorithm goes, as long as you understand the essence of each platform, the reason why each platform was created and continues to be supported, you’ll be just fine.
What’s the goal of your email list? To nurture a relationship with you ideal avatar. To become their go-to gal and friend.
And to make money, of course!
You can totally do the same thing on social media. The biggest difference here is where they are in the marketing funnel.
People will find you on social way before they’ll subscribe to your email list.
It’s less of a commitment.
But you can use the same process of nurturing on social as you do on your email list nurture sequence. Because the goal is the same: move them from cold to warm to raving fan.
The platform on which you do that doesn’t matter. And once they love you on one platform, you can ask them to join you on another. So, then, you don’t have to worry about those scare tactics.
Because you’re prepared and ready for whatever happens in marketing.
