Bloggers: You DON’T need to create new content for your social media profiles.
This is a misconception that I hear around the blogging sphere all the time! We get into content writing mode and we feel like our audience is hanging out with us on every single social platform that we have profiles on. And then we think we have to create new content for them to consume in each place.
But it doesn’t mean that we need to be creating new content for that platform.
In fact, creating special content specifically for each platform is a giant waste your time. And make your brand look a little scatter-brained.
You already created super valuable blog content, so why not repurpose it? Odds are, what is resonating with your people on your blog is probably going to resonate with them on Facebook. Or Instagram.
And consistency across platforms is both good for your content marketing and even better for your sanity.
So let’s repurpose that content, shall we? Today, I’m going to break down 10 ways that you can repurpose and promote your blog post on social media.
If you are ready to make the jump into long form video content, YouTube and IGTV perfect.
And you don’t even have to write new content for it. If you have been blogging for a little while start by transforming your most popular blog content into video for each platform.
And you can do this all on your phone if you want! Apps like InShot and Adobe Premiere Rush are user-friendly and an easy place to start learning photo editing.
I, personally, am a little bit old school and like to edit videos in programs like iMovie or Adobe Premiere Pro. iMovie is the most user friendly for newbies to video editing, but if you’re tech savvy and don’t mind taking the time to learn a bit more about video, Adobe Premiere Pro is one of my favorite video tools.
My last little tidbit for those of you ready to dive into long-form video: YouTube is a horizontal video platform and IGTV is a vertical video platform. You can use your horizontal video on IGTV and vice versa, but it isn’t a best practice.
This is an easy way to share your blog content in a new place. If it’s a shorter blog post you could just copy and paste into the caption area with one of your photos from the post.
OR if the post is
This is similar to creating a series in your Instagram feed, but instead you introduce the series in the feed and send them to find out more in IG stories.
Video content is so important these days and Instagram stories are a great way to get your feet wet in the world of video, live video
The best part? If it falls flat it disappears in 24 hours. And you can try the content again in a few months!
There are a couple of approaches you can take when posting the content onto Facebook.
One is to write a short or long summary of the post with a compelling CTA that makes them click to the full article.
The other approach you can experiment with is taking your full blog post and copying it over for your fans to consume on your page.
“But Andrea. I want to drive all of my traffic to my website, why would I give out all of the goods on FB.”
Totally. And this strategy might not be for you. But blogging is about getting eyes on your content, right?
And I’m a big believer in reaching people where they already are. We are all lazy on the internet! And we don’t want to leave the platform if we don’t have to.
Remember, what is resonating with your people on your email list or your avatar on another social platform has a good chance of resonating with them on another platform.
So, promote your blog post by
This is a chance for you to really start cultivating conversation around a topic. So, let’s say that you have a blog post going bananas or a topic that you feel your avatar wants to discuss further. Create a few talking points for yourself from your blog post and go live to talk about it!
Starting a conversation with your people can take time if you have never asked them anything before. But, asking them a question that relates to a recent blog post topic can start the conversation.
They might not respond at first if you have never asked them anything before. So keep asking even if you get crickets at first.
What did you talk about in your blog post that you can ask them about?
Have an old email challenge or old opt-in that could use a little new life? Run the challenge on a new platform! Promoting the challenge and adapting it for a new, fun platform can grab new people you hadn’t reached before!
This might be an obvious one, but it’s good to note. Create a downloadable version of your post for people to get when they opt-in to your email list. A little copy and paste into Canva and a simple workbook can give the blog post new life!
People love step-by-step guides. It simple and gives them a clear start and end goal. But what if your content is long or you have a series of posts that get them to the end goal? Try creating an email course from this content to entice people onto your email list and give them stackable, actionable bits of information that they can put into action.
Instagram stories are a great place to talk about your affiliates every once in a while. You don’t want to sell to them too much, but sharing your favorite things with them and using an affiliate link is a-okay.
This is a particularly effective strategy because people are much more likely to purchase something if they have a recommendation from a friend than from a stranger or a big brand. Word of mouth is everything and if you have cultivated a relationship with your IG audience, they may even appreciate getting a recommendation for the tools and products you love.
Before you do this, make sure you know the best practices and rules for sharing affiliate links on social. Each affiliate is different and you want to maintain a good relationship by following their rules and wishes.
Promote your blog post by repurposing your existing content. It’s
